God’s own perspective

Reading this portion of the scriptures (in Luke) alone, we might think that Jesus has issues with people being rich, but this is not the case. However, Mark’s rendition of this same story shows that this young man had put his trust in his riches.  This goes contrary to the commandment laid before us which is for us not to have any other god before Him, which in the New Testament is synonymous to adultery.

We must be careful about the way you handle the law, because the law has the capacity to veil anyone. A proper New Testament church should teach the kingdom of God beginning from the book of Moses.

The New Testament gives you a proper perspective of the Old Testament. Finding our footing in the New Testament would help guard against confusion in dealing with the Old Testament. For instance, when the Old Testament says we should not muzzle the mouth of the oxen working in a field, His concern was not the oxen, but the ministers of the Gospel. The eyes of the Lord are infinite and He must open our eyes otherwise we would just create more problems for people.

In the New Testament, God’s sight is quite deep. The Church is supposed to be a place of sight and truth. The Church is a pillar of truth, and truth comes by revelation. This does not take away the place of intellectual teaching. It is true that our minds are dull but because truth comes from the Lord, we must focus more on this than intellectualism or high-sounding teachings. In the light of this, we should desire wisdom and revelation to know these things.

Beware of your cravings!  When your mind, will and emotions are used to striving towards only things that are earthly, the Bible says you are carnally minded.

Esau despised his birthright; he did not count it as something of much importance. He was seen as a profane person because he walked in profanity. A profane person is one who is of a ‘common mind’; one to whom nothing is holy. For this reason, the decision had already been made from the time Esau was born that he wouldn’t carry the blessing.

It is possible for the Saints to fall in this same situation. We cannot live our life based on momentary gratification. We cannot come into our inheritance when we don’t value the things of God. The amount of time and effort we devote towards a thing shows how much we value it. We must hold our spirituality in high esteem and not trade it for anything. One important aspect of our spirituality is the knowledge the Father. We are entitled to this as believers and shouldn’t trade it for anything.

For every season on the earth, there is always a class of believers called ‘the first fruits’ following the order of first-borns dedicated to God in the Old Testament. Esau despised his right as a first born because of profanity and fornication (fornication, not in the usual sense of the word, but meaning he despised his right based on momentary gratification).

We should be careful not to fall into the same fate as Esau. We cannot afford to live our lives according to the dictates of the flesh because of immediate gratification.
