Easter Retreat: Enforcing the Power of the Resurrection over the flesh

Pastor Dele Olubi

1 John 5: 4 – 5

  • The issue of the flesh is going to be a continuous battle until the redemption of the body. The resurrection is a victory for us.
  • There are people who lived their lives only pleasing themselves. Just like it happened in the days of Noah, people are also becoming lovers of themselves and loving pleasures. If we are children of GOD and we call ourselves believers, we should know those things that make for our peace.
  • God wants to bring us to the point where we would not have only come out of the unclean, but also would have picked up His nature too.
  • God will put in us the ability to live His life but would never come down to live for you. Man will always be involved in the plan of God. He has come to the point where He will not make anything happen in this earth without involving man, so whether we like it or not, we have to be involved because we are the treasures in earthly vessels that the scriptures talk about.
  • There is this tendency for humans to resist control. As believers, we should be careful about what we spend our time doing. Anything we spend our time here doing that will not have any consequences in the age to come, we should try as much as we can minimize the amount of attention we give to it. What we give our time to becomes our Lord, our god.

Galatians 5: 24 – 25

  • The flesh has two components: affections and lust. These two aspects of the flesh form the strength and weakness of any man. However, because we are in Christ, the affections and the lush of the flesh is crucified. This means that we now have the power to handle any attractions of the flesh. No one should have any excuse of staying under the control of the flesh (Gal. 6: 14).

Rom. 8: 3; 1Pet. 1: 13 – 16

  • We have the responsibility to ensure that we put our flesh in check; else we will run into serious problems. We have the responsibility not to use our bodies for unrighteous purposes. We are not to sit back and claim to live under the arms of grace when we have not taken responsibility for our lives.
  • There can be so much in a man that can resist God. So, if the Holy Ghost is going to have His way, there mustn’t be any kind of resistance.
  • Any gospel that we have that cannot specifically teach us and tell us how to live the God-kind of life will not help us.
  • Many of the things we read in the scriptures are people’s experiences that were put there for us to read and discover by ourselves. We are to discover how to live in the spirit so that our experiences will also stand as a guide to help people.
